Taking care of your tattoo after you’ve had a laser treatment is a crucial step in achieving your removal goals.
During and for 15 minutes after your treatment, the area will be blasted with -30C air. This goes a long way to preventing blisters and for keeping you more comfortable.
There are also some steps you need to take yourself. In the first 48 hours it’s important to:
- Keep the area clean and don’t pick, poke or pop it – your skin is vulnerable after being lasered and it’s important to avoid anything that could lead to an infection. If a blister or scab does form, leave it alone.
- Keep it cool if it starts to feel warm – a bag of frozen peas is a great option.
- Moisturize! You can purchase Laser Doctor cream from Second Skin or use Bepanthen cream from the pharmacy. Apply 2-3 times a day during the first few days. After that, apply morning and evening until it’s healed.
- Avoid exposing the treatment area to the sun for at least 3 months. If it’s impossible to keep it covered with clothing, use a zinc oxide sun block.
- Take it easy for the first day or two to give you immune system a chance to focus on removing the freshly blasted ink particles. Read about how it works here.
